A friend of mine and i are really digging this system but combat rolls are eluding us, here is what we are doing:
For the example i'll use Raine and Shou
Raine gets the drop on Shou and leads off with his "Raging Thunder Slash" in hopes to avoid a prolonged fight
<rolls 7d6>
Okay, got two 6's, two 4's, two 3's and a 1. that means a 12.
<buddy rolls for defense (7d6)>
Best i got is 8. (two 4's) Rolled: 1, 2, 2, 4, 4, 5, 6
DAMAGE MATHS:
12-8 = 4
Overcame the defense 4 times.
Shou does not appear to have abilities that can reduce the DX
(4*DX[7])*Effective[3] = 84 Damage
Shou is almost completely decimated in one hit,
health: 0
endurance: 16
This seems a bit extreme, are we doing this right?

Re: Need some help
Not quite. Effective ADDS to the damage multiplier. It does not multiply the damage AND the damage multiplier. It is also already included in the listed DX for that attack. It's more like:(4*DX[7])*Effective[3] = 84 Damage
Default DX 1, +3 Attack (Kaze), +3 Effective =7
Attack roll difference = 12-8 = 4
(4 damage)*(7 damage multiplier) = 28
=> 28 damage to Shou
Note: the game can be deadlier than what you may expect compared to say d20 or something, but that is intentional in this system and this genre. However, you can make it less so just by deemphasizing combat if that is what you are going for.
