Re: Naruto possible
I'm not as familiar with Naruto as I could be (I stopped reading at about the... the competition thing, where Orochimaru first really showed up?) but I'm pretty familiar with OVA, so maybe I can help a bit. First off, the forums are a little bit dead right now! We're all kind of waiting for the game...
Re: Mecha?
Yes, that would be the time to use Scale . If one combatant has an overwhelming advantage, the book recommends giving them a +5. The example in the book is a guy trying to outrun a tank on flat ground -- no matter how fast the guy is or how slow the tank is, it's still a vehicle, and thus has an adv...
Re: Mecha?
There's nothing really specific to mecha, but mecha can be easily built in the existing system. I ran a crazy space hijinks sort of game and a couple of the characters made mechs. They worked just fine. :3
You just build the mecha like it's a character.

Re: Mecha?
OVA does mecha combat as well as it does any other sort of combat. (Very well, in my opinion.)
It's no different than any other sort of combat.

Re: Character Threat Value
I remember the character creation rules, don't worry! :D I was curious if anyone had any data about what sorts of TVs these character creation rules end up with since I always explain TV to my players and ask them to try to hit around a certain mark with it. I don't really nitpick, I think someone's...

Re: Rules Clarifications from the Backer Preview
-3 penalty to sight-based rolls is pretty stiff. (If suggested max dice is 7, that's just shy of half your roll.) Especially when you consider that (in most campaigns, for most types of characters and monsters) almost everything, including attacks and defenses, are based on sight. It makes Impairing...

Re: Character Threat Value
That helps a ton. *3*
Sounds like my manually-imposed TV limit of 15 is a little on the low-average side. That's cool. That means my monsters are probably scaled about right for other peoples' campaigns, but could stand to be beefed up just a tad.

I am bringing this back because it's so useful to me. Now with handy graph:
And with Standard Deviation, if you're into that:

Re: Character Threat Value
I'm waiting for the full version to restart some games i started last year, as TV wasn't "officially" given to us (via book, i mean). If you have information from previous games, that's good, too! (That's what I'm working off of anyway, since I only just started my game with Revised.) The...

Re: Rules Clarifications from the Backer Preview
I think Blinded is a temporary complication, like a bad status . Defensive i like to think that is a attack followed by a defensive stance, one that really protects the user. I think bad status is basically the definition of "complication" in OVA Revised. I know what the perks do. I'm onl...

Re: Rules Clarifications from the Backer Preview
Blinding says "Your Ability has the ability to hinder the vision of others." So probably not.
(That would make a neat flaw, though!)

Rules Clarifications from the Backer Preview
These might be language nitpicks, but who knows! Those might be useful too, haha. Blinding Is "Blinded" (-3 to sight-related rolls) classified as a complication? If not (out of curiosity) why not? Is the target of an Ability with the Blinding perk blinded only if the Ability is used succes...

Character Threat Value
GMs (and Clay, of course!) what do you suppose is the typical Threat Value of a starting character in your game? If you don't look at your players' TVs, what method do you use for limiting the character's power levels at the beginning of the game, if any? I'm trying to get a feel for the average pow...

Re: On Transformation and Gear
Might also be worth mentioning that characters with the Transformation ability are typically significantly less powerful untransformed than characters who have powers all the time. Certain magical sailor soldiers, for example, had virtually no powers at all untransformed!

Re: Inventor and Inventiveness
If they have a few standard potions that they use as attacks, maybe they should design those attacks (perhaps with the ammunition flaw?) and assume the character keeps those particular potions at hand. (As opposed to potions that they may or may not have made or remembered to bring, which would requ...
