Re: Precognition
I'm converting a character from another RPG. I notice that there is no Precognition Ability in the OVA book so I am thinking I need to make it a Unique Ability. Has anyone else done anything with prescient abilities? Just looking for ideas or input before I take a crack at creating it. If it's fram...

Re: Hi there! I'm new and I have questions.
So i guess one item I see is that "Boorish" is not in the weakness area yet it's on Shou's character sheet, so was this left out by accident? The Boorish weakness became the Rude weakness, so it's probably just an error that slipped through, hopefully Clay can correct it and update the pd...

Re: Hi there! I'm new and I have questions.
Okay, so, lemme try and explain it. You know how OVA works for conflicts, with the initiative and then everybody gets one action? Apocalypse World and the other games based on those rules don't do that. It's all fiction based, with people just acting and reacting to each other back and forth with n...

Re: Hi there! I'm new and I have questions.
I think you came with the wrong mindset: OVA is a game of its own, one you can bring ideas from other sources to add depth and awesomeness tot your table. But not the system. A good advice would be "read the book while not thinking/try to compare with any other game". You can totally mod ...

Re: Handling Magical Items and Treasure
If I were running a game where collecting magic items ect was one of the main focuses I'd totally be using the Gear ability to represent it, however I wouldn't just have items give +1 Strong and stuff all the time. In one campaign I'm preparing for now my GMPC will have a sword that gives her attack...

Re: Trying to figure out Miho's TV
Looking at it myself it seems like if you don't count the Combat Expert from the transformation it comes out as 20 and with the transformation it does seem to be 22, so possibly because the transformation isn't a permanent adjustment (like a point in Strong would be) it isn't counted? (Which is a bi...

Re: Some remarks on the full rules
All sounds cool, hope the session went well! * The Attack ability increases DX instead of attack roll. I struggled quite a bit with this one, until I realized that attack roll and DX can be exchanged freely by taking accurate+ineffective or effective+inaccurate. So I houseruled that Attack gives a b...

Re: Making extraordinarily strong characters
Thread Necromancy! Ahem...been thinking about this topic lately. Seems to me a nice easy way to get around this problem of super strong (or fast, or intelligent, or whatever) is to create an expensive Perk (+10 or 20?) called Scale . It can be taken multiple times. Each time it is taken, it ups the...

Re: What about Combat Effectiveness vs Maximum Roll?
I didn't understand exactly what you meant with the Time Stop. Could you re-explain that please ? Well I don't want to copy paste too much out of the preview or anything, obviously but one ability can't hurt... Time is constant…or was until you came along. You have the ability to slow or even freez...

Re: What about Combat Effectiveness vs Maximum Roll?
Maybe, for every Effective Perk, the Barrier causes 1d damage? So, Effective +3 = 3d roll? I don't know. I liked this change for incorporeal, but what about Time Stop? Is that still overpowered? There is a brazillian rpg which uses transformation in a different way. basically, you may have differen...

Re: What about Combat Effectiveness vs Maximum Roll?
Well, so I will not be afraid of my pickiness anymore, ha! In regards to the whole 'attack' vs 'damage' naming, I think I've said everything concerning my opinion. But, since you started talking about barrier, I also have some problems with it (althought they might have been solved with the revised...

Re: What about Combat Effectiveness vs Maximum Roll?
But on the subject of naming things, it is as StarRaven also pointed: the first reaction for any new player will be to add the Attack ability to the Attack Roll dice. It's very counter-intuitive, but in no way worse than many other rpgs, so it is really not a big problem. I'm just being picky, no n...
Re: Mecha?
Which can cause it's own type of issues. After all, how much damage does a 30 foot long beam cannon do compared to a 5+ ft person? Well, that's where the idea of 'scale' comes in I suppose, which is a part of the new book and has been discussed somewhere on the site before I think. In the case of a...

Re: Character Threat Value
That helps a ton. *3* Sounds like my manually-imposed TV limit of 15 is a little on the low-average side. That's cool. That means my monsters are probably scaled about right for other peoples' campaigns, but could stand to be beefed up just a tad. Well the books (1st edition and the kickstarter-bac...

Re: Character Threat Value
But really, nobody has any opinions on TV? ;_; A lot of the characters in the 2 campaigns I've started have been in the 12-25 threat value range, heavily depends on what rules you set for character creation though. Using Power Ceiling (12) and Scaled Cost for my most recent campaign had several of ...
