Yar, mateys! I too am working on a pirate campaign - also inspired by certain films (coff coff) and certain constructable games (ahem)... As some folks know i'm sort of merging my OVA with Fudge rules, but that's beside the point. I've done two elements in my ship-to-ship battles. The first is that ...

Okay, then, a quick overview of Fudge. [Let me know if i leave too many holes to be coherent.] First off, the rules are available for free from Grey Ghost Press at http://www.fudgerpg.com/ [So you can always get a look at anything that i don't explain clearly.] Fudge was publishing as an effectively...

Ha! My love for Fudge comes to the rescue: if the main characters and villains are going to be Exalted and creatures on par with Exalted, you can just adjust the scale of the game completely, so that no bonus dice = typical for an Exalt - or maybe +1 is typical Exalt, so a character with no bonus in...

I can't tell you the number of people who I got 'into' anime because of Cowboy Bebop. The big advantage to that series is that the English dubbing has a lot of great performances (which used to be a serious problem - many fiilms & series had bad bad bad dubs - including Lodoss War - but resistan...

To me it just depends on the kind of advice and the kind of expectations to set. One could easily argue that telling someone how to run a D&D campaign is 'dumb,' if you are limiting their horizons - describing cliches as necessities, f'rinstance, claiming that a campaign -must- be one treasure-s...

attributes list

Anybody notice the Abilities & Weaknesses PDF doesn't list anything before Art of Invisibility? No Acrobatics, no Agile, no Animal Companion, no Armor... apparently i don't need them on the list, but um... um...

Maybe it's my 'Devil's Advocate' gene acting up, but i'm gonna go a slightly different way here. While it's true that calling 'anime' a genre is rather clumsy, the fact remains that a kind of visual vocabulary evolved within manga & anime that is unique to these art forms, yet exists across genr...

I've played a little Tri-Stat dx, but not BESM proper. I don't remember if the dx book has Animal Friend; it probably has somethign like it. But this was just something that seemed appropriate for the character i wanted, and i realized there are probably plenty of other characters who would work wit...

Your reasoning is pretty much on, as far as i can see. The one thing that seems to be tripping you up is the fact that Armor and Weapon, not to mention Vehicle/Mecha, are already items. Weapon and Vehicle are not particularly ambiguous. You don't need to buy Vehicle and give it a focus (vehicle); th...

Fudging OVA

EDIT: adding the "About Fudge" and "Disclaimber" info that should have been put on here in the first place. ABOUT FUDGE Fudge is a role-playing game written by Steffan O'Sullivan, with extensive input from the Usenet community of rec.games.design. The basic rules of Fudge are ava...

TBP, thanks for your comments. It sounds like we're working on similar wavelengths here. This does make sense, rules wise, but the different names let you know right away what the Ability is. I'm not saying you're wrong, I would do it the same way, but Clay likes the names to be as descriptive as po...

I chose the +10 for the 'vampiric' perk because it seems to me that healing yourself for free with the same action that damages a foe is a significant benefit, even if you're only getting half what you deal out. A villain with this power (especially taking two levels to get 1:1 vampirism) could be v...

I woudl suggest comparing that Regeneration against Heal. Seems to me you might take Healing and maybe a Special Weakness (can only use Heal on self), which is probably just a -1. I've been trying to figure out how to achieve a kind of vampiric effect where a character can steal health or vitality. ...

As far as Animal Companion and Servant abilities, i've just swapped 'em both out for a single "companion" ability. To my thinking, this can include a servant (trusty ol' Alfred) an animal friend (Luna, Battlecat, whatever), a sidekick (i'm sure i don't even need to give examples here) or e...

Hey, Shooting Star, I like that 'Promiseals' idea! If you don't mind, i might steal it for some of my games. I like the ideas i've heard so far for Fantasy (my preferred genre). I believe I saw elsewhere on the site that the book is intended to include techno-fantasy stuff like the later Final Fanta...
