Magic, Focused

I was thinking, "How would I go about making a FFXI-type Summoner?" I figured out that it would take Magic, Arcane to give the character Animal Companion or Servant, but the Endurance costs were a bit too high for my liking. So what's a Pherret to do?? Why, take the Invention route, and change it to Focused Magic!!

So here's what I have so far:

Magic, Focused: Focused Magic is just like it's basic counterpart, except that you specialize in a specific kind of magic. Within this small range, you can cast spells with greater efficency, and thus use less Endurance. Use the following table when casting Focused Magic:

Code: Select all

Lvl of | Level of Ability |
Caster | +1 | +2 | +3 | +4 | +5 |
   +1 | 5 | 10 | 20 | 40 | 80 |
   +2 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 20 | 40 |
   +3 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 10 | 20 |
   +4 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 10 |
   +5 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 5 |
Granted, Invention, Focused, makes it easier to make things, so one would assume that Magic, Focused would make it easier to cast (IE, more dice to roll)...but I wanted something that gave me an Endurance break, so I could have a summoned pet out for a long while AND be able to use Power Moves/other Magic at the same time.

I'm sure a more "official" Magic, Focused would just have you using double your Magic Ability when rolling, so as to allow for still and/or silent spells to be easier cast.

But, that's my take on Magic, Focused...so sue me ^_^

Seems like a fine idea to me, though potentially abusable. That's quite an Endurance break, especially if the "focus" isn't much of a sacrifice...say...SPELLS THAT KILL.

What I would do is pair Servant with Human Arsenal and a Focus (or Special Weakness, if you think this is a stretch for Focus) of "Requires X Endurance"

How did summoned creatures work in FFXI anyway? I only played a THF (and WAR/RDM briefly)

This is true, but I wanted to find a way to keep the Endurance costs lower than what was listed.

I never thought about using Human Arsenal...but for the FFXI addict I was, it'd be Tarutaru Arsenal ^_^...HA sounds just what I was looking for.

Basically, spend X MP and summon your pet. Every tic, it drained Y MP, based on your level and the pet summoned. Also, each pet had a few "tricks," called Blood Pacts, that were akin to spells. It drew off of your MP, and they did the spell. Carbuncle, the first summon you get, has Healing Ruby to start with, which is a mid-power heal spell. He later got Poison Nails, which did damage, and poisoned them. Other summons had other abilities, like Protectra & Shellra in one, stat boosts, etc.
