Changes to accomodate high power levels

I was just thinking about how to adapt the OVA system to work better with high-end games, where you might allow more than a +5 bonus to a given roll.

For example, I was considering how it would affect the game to use d10s instead of d6s. 1s become less common, but doubles are less common too, which helps reduce the occurance of ridiculously high results. At the same time, the average roll goes up from 3.5 to 5.5, so I'd also add 2 to all the target numbers.

This would be most appropriate for a Supers game or something like Exalted.

Thoughts?

Take a look at page 2 of this thread to see a table of DNs for d10s.

Hope that helps.

Also, there is no rule stating that you can't get higher than +5 bonus. You might be confused with the character creation rules that state "it's a bad idea to allow more than a +5 for combat rolls when created."

Ok, so that's not exactly what it says, but you get the idea. ^_^

Thanks!

I'm actually a little embarrassed to admit that I managed to read the book through once thinking the game was played with d10s. It's only on the second time going back to look stuff up that I suddenly realized it said to use d6s.

The idea being that you can go higher after creation? Okay, I'll buy that.

Technically, you can go higher at creation. Every rule is merely a suggestion after all. :) If you feel like your game can handle it, go for it.
