These are very, very cool characters? What are the PCs able to be? And where did you find the art?

I usually let my players create +5 characters: max 15 point of advantages and max 10 points od disadvantages. Starting character can have one +3 advantage while the others are lower.

I create the characters inspired by the artwork of various artists:
try here http://wen-m.deviantart.com/gallery/ and here http://www.rpgfan.com/pics-gc.html for example.

here's a character from a different game:

Admiral Val Grissom

Image

Charisma +2
Combat Skill +1
Hobby: Military Tactics +4
Intimidation +1
Position of Power +3
Smart +1
Willpower +1

Ageism -2
Arrogant -1
Boorish -1
Emotionless -1
Guardian -2 (his students)

This is an Npc I created for a scenario that is still incomplete: the story is about a group of young mercenaries that live on a giant battleship called Dreadnought. This is both a school than their home, and they are similar to the Seeds of the videogame Final Fantasy 8... with the difference that they wander the galaxy fighting various menaces.
Val Grissom is the headmaster of this mercenary school, an old gruff soldier that gives briefings and commands the teachers on the ship.
Ship that looks more or less like this:

(sooner or later I'll develope this setting...)

I've been letting them take whatever they want as long as the difference isn't greater than +5 and it fits the character's concept. So far, this hasn't been a problem, but I'm also running an OVA version of Exalted, which so far is working very well! I've been searching for years for a system to replace the ST System for Exalted and I now I've found it...so happy!

Oh, I and I have to say that you're setting is very cool and I was thinking that "Dreadnought" would be a fantastic setting-piece for a Lookshyan military academy.

At the beginning the setting idea was quite different: a group of young superheroes living on a crashed battleship in a post-apocalyptic setting. A mix of Trigun with Fist of the Northern Star with superheroes... but I changed my mind... no more superheroes! :D

Steam-powered Golem

Image

Combat Skill +2
Armor +2
Life Support +4
Strong +2
Weapon +2 (axe)
Willpower +3

Emotionless -3
Bizarre Appearance -2
Serviturde -3 (his master)
Size -1
Special Weakness (steam-powered) -2
Slow -1
Naive -3

Here's one ally/enemy for any medieval setting. Hm I'll probably use it as some sort of servant or sidekick of an evil mage. This Golem is sentient, even if it isn't surely a sociable fellow.

Captain Peter Skyrider

Image

Acrobatic +2
Agile +2
Combat Skill +1
Defense +2
Pilot +3
Quick +2

Bad Reputation (coward & inept) -1
Boorish -1
Lecherous -1
Servitude -2 (Captain Morgan Goldenhand)
Special disadvantage -1 (brags a lot!)
Unperceptive -1

Peter was one of the protagonists of a one shot adventure I ran (the other was Mara, a gun-toting female treasure hunter, inspired by Lara Croft from Tomb Raider). The adventure was called "Pirates of the Seven Stars": Peter and Mara were two Space Pirates living on Black Rock, a pirate settlemente built inside a hollow asteroid. The old Captain Morgan Goldenhand (so called because not only a hand, but both his arms and legs were replaced by golden cybernetic limbs) gave them a difficult mission: finding and bringing back a treasure that was also wanted by the two warring forces of the galaxy: the Dark-corner empire lead by a sorcerer with an army of white armored clones, and the Teocracy of the Space-Crusaders.
(ok, I admit that it was a parody of Star Wars, Star Trek and Warhammer 40.000... but it was funny)

Speaking about Peter, he was considered a coward because he was a pilot. Infact there were no space battles since the Space Pirates didn't destroy the enemy spaceships (the ships are money!). They used bullet-capsules to shoot their warriors inside the hull of the enemy ships and capture them... and since Peter always piloted the pirate ship he was never sent inside an enemy ships (he's a good pilot but not a good fighter) everyone believed him a coward. Until last mission...

I'm back! Here's the first character of my last adventures.
The setting is a nice blend of Fist of the Northern Star, Trigun and Fallout (the videogame serie)... well more the former! The setting is a Post Apocalyptic Tokio (inspired by the works of TokyoGenso). There are robots but no cyborgs (or cyber implants), firearms but no lasers... and so on.

The Monk of the Gun
Image

Agile: +2
Combat Skill: +2
Defense: +2
Quick: +2
Perceptive: +1
Hobby: Gun Fu +4
Hobby: Survival +2
Weapon: +2 (ranged, handguns)
Special Advantage: Fame +1

Impulsive -1
Guardian -1 (peasants in need)
Code of Conduct -1 (honest and loyal)
Secret -2 (ex bandit)
Stubborn -1
Special disadvantage -2 (wanderlust)
Wanted -2 (by the Crows)

The man known as The Monk of the Gun was originally a young boy of a small nameless village.
He left his parents to work in a mercenary gang that protected people from the dangers of the wastelands, especially from the Oni, huge mutant brutes. Unfortunately when the leader of this mercenary group, called "The Crows" was killed while searching for supplies, the new commander transformed the group in a criminal organization, accepting bandits and assassins among the soldiers... that now were just raiders.
Years passed, and the young guy become a ruthless gunman... until something happened. Maybe it was seeing his friends stealing food from farmers, of probably being forced to kill even a harmless priest that made him change his mind. One night, while most of the group was away, preparing an assault, he killed the guards and stole everything the Crow had in their hideout: food, weapons, armors, medicines... and driving a truck, he gave everything to the people of the nearby villages. He only kept a couple of guns and lots of bullets...
"Monk of the Gun" is how people call him since he mixes martial arts, firearms skill and theology: every real priest will quickly understand that he's not a Monk at all, even if he says prayers... but he helps people so, he's not a bad person at all.

here's two typical enemies taken from the scenario:

Robot Samurai and Ice Oni
Image

Robot Samurai
Armor +1, Combat Skill +2, Perceptive (sensors) +2, Weapon (katanas) +2, Dumb -3, Emotionless -3, Servitude (the Emperor) -3.

These are the typical soldiers of the Emperor that is trying to rebuild Japan going back to the ancient traditions. These robots are a common sight on the lands of japan even if they aren't considered samurai but just troops, even if not really expendables: troops that are needed to mantain control of the wasteland since trained fighters are difficult to find. The patrols of robot samurai are always commanded by one true living samurai, no matter if he comands them with a remote control or directly on the field using vocal commands.

Ice Oni
Art of Invisibility +2, Intimidation +2, Combat Skill +1, Strong +3, Hobby (mountain survival) +4, Bizarre Appearance -3, Boorish -3, Dumb -1, Size -1, Unnatural Weakness -2 (fire and fire damage).

The Ice Oni is what people call the mutants that live in the mountains. Cruel and vicious creatures, they uses stealth and strenght to hunt travellers, or animals. They eat human flesh and sometimes use bone, wood and stone to build primitive weapons.

Here's a group of Npc of my most successful campaign... that started as one shot adventure, but it was really good... I've already posted some characters before, Vicky Lovegood and "Dollar Dave".
The setting was called "New Haven" and was a city controlled by the mysterious millionare Mr. Green. Don Salvatore Carlucci was a mafia boss that united various gangs and became a menace to the ruler of New Haven... he controlled almost half of the city but few days after he died.
Anthony and Joey Carlucci, his sons, were sure he was killed, anyway Don Vito Santini, a great friend of their father, came to the city, and they had to give him a 20% of their territory, as their father had promised.
They hoped that Don Vito and Mr. Green would have destroyed each other, leaving them as the rulers of the city, unfortunately Don Vito had the PCs among his men...

Here's the Family, only the last two were PCs, the others (like Vicky Lovegood) were just associates.

Image

Don Vito - The Big Boss! No stat needed but surely he's Filthy Rich and he's really Intimidating. In the pic he's with Danielle Lombardi, his young second wife and Bebe, her annoyng puppy that EVERYONE hated. Don Vito is demanding, serious but also a chivalrous person. He would never let his men harm women or children, and he's also a cunning person despite appearing often as a furious tyrant.

Ronnie Bonanno - The consigliere, he's Don Vito best friend. He loves knives (Hobby:Knives +4, Combat Skill +2) and he is scarred by all the knife fights he did in his youth. He was far more impulsive in the past, now he's a professional mobster and a father figure to some.

Frank Galante - The bodyguard. He's also the chief of security at the Don's villa. Frankie is considered lucky because he had saved the Boss by more than one ambush... the truth is that a really perceptive person (Perceptive +3) but not lucky at all since he like gambling too much but it's a bad player. He has two dogs, Samael and Azazel.

Diego "Ace" - The killer. Nobody knows his surname: Diego is the perfect mobster, he's loyal, has no friends or family, he had only the Family! His name derives by that he leaves an ace of spade on the body of the victim of he lets have it before killing them (maybe from distance with a sniper rifle). The police is now hunting the "Killer of Spade" and many people fears him. He's really an ace with firearms (Hobby: Firearms +5, Combat Skill +3, Art of Invisibility +3) and he often works alone. Despite his intimidating presence, he's a good person, quite shy and professional, he never harm anyone except for his target.
He likes using weapons with laser sight for intimidation effect (the red dot), no because he needs them! He doesn't know any martial art but he has a couple of Power Moves such as "Precise Zen Shot".
He even saved the Pcs life in one scenario.

Paul Fratto - The driver. He became a great friend of one of the Pcs that was a getaway driver. Paul, nicknamed "Red" because of his hair, started his career as a pilot on illegal street racing. He loves fast cars (of course), girls and smoking. He looks impulsive and foolhardy but it's just a ruse to make people underestimate him.

Tony Fratto - The brawler. He's Paul older brother, and he was a debt collector and later became responsabile of protection rackets. Anyway he's more than a mindless tough, sometimes he even works as a second bodyguard and driver for the Don. (He has Strong +3, Intimidate +2)

Romeo D'Arco - The martial artist. No, to tell the truth he doesn't know any martial art (but has Combat Skill +3) but he likes exotic weapons especially katanas. He trains daily and he's considered a reliable person. He has a younger sisters that has his same passion for ancient weapons and hopes to join the Family soon...

Dominic Bonanno - The rookie. Dominic is an inexperienced mobster with great skills... he's impulsive and overconfident, and unlike Paul, he's really like that. He likes using handguns but he's not as professional as Diego, he is loud, brash and wastes a lot of ammunition (power move: rain of bullets). Besides that he's a good friend especially with Paul and Vinnie, he only tries to impress his father Ronnie.

David & Vincent
The two Pcs in the family. David McCallister was statted before.

Vinnie is the son of the boss. He lead a squad composed by associates (the other Pcs) in order to show his father that he's as good as him. I don't have his stats right know but he's similar to Natsuki from the Ova book (Combat Skill +2, Flunkies +2, Filthy Rich and so on...)

Two other Npcs from my campaign:

Image

Ryuzaki

Weapon +1 (knife)
Defense +2
Hobby: making sushi +4
Transformation +4 (Sushi Boy) - Combat Skill +2, Armor +2, Weapon +2 (becomes +3 huge knife) Power move +2)

Naive -1
Pacifist -2
Lecherous -1

Power Move: Fish-shaped energy ball (extra damage x1, ranged, activation [charging])

Ryu (as his friends call him) is a sort of comic relief, a magical boy/superhero with a laid back attitude. He became a friend of the Pcs and now he helps them not only when the restaurant where he works is attacked (happened two times, plus one brawl)

Sheriff Belle

Agile +1
Defense +1
Servant +2 (Sp0t)
Quick +1
Charisma +2
Combat Skill +1
Weapon +2 ranged (pistol)
Passion +1 (capturing criminals)
Position of Power +2 (Sheriff of the town of Little Rock)

Code of Conduct -2 (must pursue criminals and uphold the law)
Pacifist -1
Jittery -2
Fussy -1
Guardian -2 (her town)

Sp0t - Special Pet Tracker
Armor +1, Life Support +3, Heightened Sense (smell) +4, Perceptive +2, Bizarre Appearance -2, Clumsy -1, Code of Conduct -3 (obey to the sheriff and protect town).

Sheriff Belle helped the characters during an adventure set on the small town of Little Rock... well to tell the truth they helped her. Belle is the daughter of the former sheriff and has a robotic dog, Sp0t, that helps her. The robot has a sort of artificial intelligence so it isn't a mindless robot, but it's not really advanced... he's as smart as the police dogs of cinema and television (sure still better than a normal dog!).

I'm finally back with something new....

Dogs of the Shogun
In this campaign the Pcs are ronin. But not normal ronin, they are spies, killers, agents of the Shogunate that work undercover to save Japan from many threats.

Mifune - the old hatamoto

Image

Mifune is probably the oldest Dog, what is certain is that he was a great Hatamoto (general) when he was younger. His clan was destroyed after a long war and he knew that he failed. But now he's back, with a new mission, and this time he'll die before facing defeat.

Combat Skill 3
Defense 2
Hobby: military strategy 4
Perceptive 1
Willpower 2
Charisma 2
Weapon 2 (Katana "gold lotus", special quality: +1 Charisma)

Ageism -1
Code of Conduct -2 (Bushido)
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Bad Reputation -1 (wandering ronin)

Taichi - the dangerous troublemaker

Image

Taichi is a total bastard. He wasn't a samurai, but just a wandering bandit, a merciless killer. But a man like him has its uses, and Taichi isn't a stupid man, he's a survivor. He knew that only becoming useful to the Shogun he could escape death, so he became one of the Dogs.

Combat Skill 3
Defense 2
Acrobatics 1
Hobby: Geography 2
Intimidation 3
Weapon 3 (No-dachi "Demon's Fang", special quality: +1 Intimidation)
Power Move 3
- Devil's Bite: Req. Katana, Extra Accuracy > A merciless attack precise and deadly.
- Devil's Spirit: No Damage, No attack gesture, Area x2, Blinding, Will Attack > Taichi faces his enemies causing fear.

Soft Spot -1 (Sake and other alcholic beverages)
Soft Spot -1 (Challenges)
Boorish -2
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Bad Reputation -2 (violent ronin)

Thanks Clay!
Well some are just new versions of the old characters we played with others rpg sistems like Besm, it's really a pity I've no time to write the campaign/settings/scenarios we play.

Anyway...

Hayate - young samurai courtier

Image

Hayate is one of the youngest dogs. Inexperienced and naive, he's anyway useful to the group, being a charming person that usually is seen as a peaceful noble travelling samurai...and not a spy of the Shogun or a dangerous ronin.

Combat Skill 2
Defense 2
Agile 2
Hobby: playing flute 2
Perceptive 1
Lucky 2
Beauty 2
Charisma 3
Weapon 2 (Katana "Jade blossom", special quality: +1 Beauty)

Pacifist -1
Code of Conduct -2 (Bushido)
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Naive -1
Fussy-1
Overconfident -2

Kenji- stone-faced swordsman

Image

Kenji is a stereotypical samurai, focused on his duty and obsessed with being the strongest warrior. He dislike Taichi for being a honorless man, respect Mifune for his age and protects his other companions (he's probably developing a Guardian disadvantage).

Combat Skill 4
Defense 3
Quick 2
Acrobatics 2
Intimidation 1
Tough 1
Willpower 3
Power Moves 2 (I've to post them sooner or later! They're a lot)
Weapon 2 (Katana "Black cross", special quality: +1 Intimidation)

Emotionless -1
Code of Conduct -2 (Bushido)
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Bad Reputation -2 (wandering swordsman)
Impulsive -2
Obsession (duels, swords, being the best swordsman etc) -2
Overconfident -2

Midori - young girl

Image

Midori isn't a ronin or a samurai, but just the daughter of a famous martial artist, that was the typical village strongman. Midori instead had a different destiny since she was chosen to became the last addition to the Dogs' team.

Combat Skill 2
Defense 3
Agile 2
Art of Invisibility 2
Acrobatics 2
Perceptive 1
Quick 1
Cute 3
Weapon 1 (Knife, special quality: concealable)

Pacifist -1
Crybaby -2
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Easily Distracted -1
Ageism (Young) -1
Naive -2

Aiko - disgraced Yojimbo

Image

Aiko wat the bodyguard of a daimyo, but she failed protecting him, and her lord was assassinated. She later became a ronin and was chosen by Mifune as a new addition to the Dogs of the Shogun.

Combat Skill 3
Defense 2
Perceptive 3
Sixth Sense 2
Hobby: guard management and patrol organization 2
Beauty 2
Charisma 1
Weapon 2 (Katana "black blossom", special quality: +1 Charisma)

Pacifist -1
Guy Magnet -1
Shy -1
Code of Conduct -2 (Bushido)
Servitude -3 (Shogun)
Secret -2 (I'm a Dog of the Shogun)
Bad Reputation -1 (wandering ronin)

Kintaro - young sorcerer and demonic spawn (NPC)

Image

Years ago an old Daimyo was killed by the Dogs, being guilty of demon worshipping. Few days before his death, one of his samurai became e ronin and joined the Dogs. This man had a son, Kintaro, that after the death of his father, was adopted and became a Dog.
Kintaro became a mediocre swordsman (Combat Skill 2) but he developed a lot of powers, becoming also arrogant and power hungry since he felt superior to the other Dogs and probably also to the Shogun.
He became a dangerous enemy of the Dogs when he was seen worshipping demons like the old Daimyo did, and he chose to escape and create his cult. He knows a lot of the Dogs so he's a real menace for the Shogun.

There are some theories on Kintaro:
- Kintaro is a demon OR his mother (nobody knows her name) was a demon
- Kintaro is the old Daimyo reborn OR he is the son of the old Daimyo
- The old Daimyo was innocent and he was tricked and blamed by the real demon worshipper, the ronin and father of Kintaro, OR maybe the old Daimyo was only a cultist (and was insane) but not the head of the cult.

Kintaro is capable of magic such as creating illusions, becoming invisible and teleporting (or maybe he just deceive his opponent senses) but he can't control elements or really modify anything. He can do that as long he has his sword, "Ivory Moon" with him.
While he has created a small cell of cultists, the number of followers grows every day thanks to his good charisma or maybe hypnotic skills, anyway it is clear that he's not a leader but someone else is giving him orders (a demon? The undead old Daimyo thant want revenge on the Dogs and the Shogun? His father who isn't really dead?).
