Rules as written (Aka RAW) I would say yes, Although it could be kinda of OP. Overall I think it should be handled case by case, What do you all think?

It'll probably depend upon what is considered the "target" in that particular dice roll to be completely honest. And I can only assume that scaled advantage would have to be considered in this particular scenario since, well, if we're considering mecha-on-mecha then trying to strike the pilot directly would inevitably involve the rule.

Then again, we can wait to see what Clay has to say about the issue at hand.

Depends on the vehicle.

Short Answer: Yes, Strike Through would allow this.

Longer Answer: But that's not to say it's easy. Depending on the size of the vehicle compared to the size of the pilot space, it might be a VERY difficult endeavor to successfully target the pilot area, and this should be accounted for. Likewise, the pilot should get the benefit from the mecha's armor and the like.

Even Further Answer: If the mecha/vehicle we're talking about is an extensively different scale from humans (to the point that we're saying the pilot area is less than 1/10th of the vehicle as a whole) you really shouldn't use Strike Through this way.

Final Answer: If it's a silly campaign where martial artists fight mecha fight monsters fight Godzilla, then do it by all means. For a more "realistic" mecha campaign, you're probably going against the spirit of the thing by having called shots to the pilot.

While pondering this inquiry and in particular its use in a Real Robot setting, I am reminded of those electrical-based attacks such as in Gundam where said pilot is electrocuted whereas the mech is unharmed. Would Strike-Through be appropriate enough to simulate this or just chuck it up to a Unique Perk?

Oh, do I hear us talking about Goufs? :D And heat rods?! :D

Quote:
Heat Rod Electrocution Attack
Roll: +0 DX: 0 END: 0
Impairing, Paralyzing, Reach, Strike Through; Delayed, No Damage, Weapon

The Gouf uses it's head rod to entrap and electrocute its target.
I couldn't resist building this attack. I'm remembering in 08th MS team when the Gouf ace used this on protag's gundam and blew all it's breakers.

If strike through is used as being discussed, I'd say whatever the damage calculated for the purposes of inflicting complications would be on human scale as the pilot gets the stuffing electrocuted out of them.

Another way to handle it would be to use the Cancel flaw, eliminating any damage for mecha targets—but of course leaving the squishy pilot vulnerable.

Well there's another interpretation/execution of the Cancel flaw, and potentially useful too. Thanks Clay.

At least we have options for taking out the onboard crew of a giant robot.
