I've educated myself on Japanese fairytales, ghost stories, Shinto, and historical ninja at my public library. (One book on ninja was by this guy.) Of course, I like wuxia too...

I've watched so much anime that explanations of archetypes waste space for me, but I do think a few example NPCs, as in the OVA book, which show off the new facets of OVA Fantasy and can touch on those different tropes or whatever could be useful. *shrug*

Feudal Japan...very tasty....the priests, too (sounds like I eat priests); like Miroku from InuYasha or the cleric in Scrapped Princess (who is wise contrary to the sometimes ridiculous dogma of the church)? Do serial experiments lain, .hack//SIGN, The Adolescence of Utena , and FLCL share a genre? ...

OVA Fantasy deals solely with the Western inspired medieval worlds so popular in anime. Samurai, ninja, and all matters of Eastern spirits and mythology will be handled in a seperate book sometime later (Along with such "genres" as shoujo and shounen) I keep wondering if it should be call...

Anime (I often go for surreal & insightful): .hack//SIGN, The Adolescence of Utena (movie), Azumanga Daioh, FLCL, Gundam Seed (I like character drama!), Miyazaki favs: Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, & Laputa, The Vision of Escaflowne Manga (Science & Fantasy, mainly): Corner Alley 13 (...
