Re: Specializations
Here's the thing, a lot of 90's and early 2000s anime characters tended to hyper-specialize into one thing, whether it's brawling, magic or swordsmanship. A single weapon (assuming it's a Shonen) that doubles as a super hero costume, a visual identifier for the viewing audience. Which is why Knowle...

Re: Specializations
Actually, Quigley Down Under, Quigley is a master gunslinger, he just prefers to use the rifle. He's not any better, just has a preference for a long arm. Re: Questions about the Core Rulebook
There's a lot of stuff in the core book that's a little off and could use better wording, but we adapt to it, and use the system as we like. Personally, I have issues with the Gear stat and the Ammunition flaw, they are both oddly named and designed for what they do. But its easy to ignore or work a...

Re: Community Resource Hub
The fantasy gear listings we had a while back should be added to this as well. Those are a valid resource for any setting I'd think.

Re: Power Rangers
I'm literally new to OVA and stumbled over it yesterday on my search for a system to play Power Rangers with my son. What I really like about the system is the intuitivity but I'd like to ask some questions to give me newbie a head start: - what would the typical Power Ranger character look like? A...

Re: First Impressions and suggestions.
For us, it's been the opposite, the game falls apart. We can use parts of it, certain characters, but not all together, as implied.

Re: First Impressions and suggestions.
Sorry, that's technically what I meant. Each of the characters have an implied setting with them, and that although some can cross over, there are seeds of ideas that can expand in terms of rules. For example, as you pointed Yuu and Fenrir, who have a new mechanic, Trust, which could be expanded upo...

Re: First Impressions and suggestions.
Part of the issue I have with OVA's 'implied' setting is that there isn't one so much as a group of disparate characters with settings that outright clash. Which means there's potential for several settings within the game, but Clay seems to be very busy with life in general to even consider doing a...

Re: OVA was perfect for us.
It does what it does well. It has it's issues (the whole point of the Gear category compared to other 'containers' can be redundant, but really, that's not a big problem. It can be easily ignored) but it's one of the smoother systems I've used in years. There are certain types of games I won't use i...

Re: First Time GM, possibly in over my head.
So, first off, and I have no idea how much time you have to prepare, but if this is a one off game at a Con, premake the PCs. Secondly, pick a location(s) that you want the PCs to go. Keep it small, like three to four locations, tops. School, mall, local Ramen shop and park (for example.) Most Con g...

DTRPG has it as a PDF. If you're OK with reading on a device, like your PC.ZephyrMourne wrote:Unfortunately, I didn't discover OVA until after the 2nd book was out and I saw it at a friend's house (he got his from the kickstarter), but I'd like to read that. Is it still available somewhere?

Re: Attacks, Flaws, and Weaponry - Confused with disarmament
Jiro's gun attack has the Weapon Flaw, while, as an extra, the Yakuza doesn't really warrant that kind of detail. So your saying that you hand wave it. And so Gear ends up not being used. Gear is there to group Abilities and Weaknesses if you want to. It can be useful for any campaign where charact...

Yeah, Ammunition is badly named for what it intends to do.

Re: Attacks, Flaws, and Weaponry - Confused with disarmament
All right. Honest question then. Can someone take Fukiko's Lockvet and use the power for themselves, in other words turn into Myu-Myu as well? Or if she loses it, only she loses the powers, no one else benefits? That's up to the player. I'd venture to say no in Fukiko's case, but there are a lot of...
