If you prefer something more like the latter, simply reduce the everyman to one die, leaving the normal two-dice default to super heroes. Should more clearly delineate the two. Oh that wasn't even a concern of mine. After running my current OVA campaign, no one doubts how better hero characters are...

That's entirely up to the GM. Ties could go to the PC, NPC, the bigger dice pool, etc. I personally continue the contest another round until the tie is broken.

Super OVA

I'm currently running a space fantasy mini/test camapign in OVA . We're into our 6th gaming session with approximately 4 more sessions to go. I'm playing in a Mutants & Masterminds 2e game, and I'm looking to begin work on a new campaign when mine ends. Has anyone run a superhero game in OVA yet?

The Starstone Treasure is a free giveaway that anyone can download and print out for nothing. There shouldn't be a problem unless you were charging for it? Printing out the OVA book and distributing it is called piracy whether you're charaging for it or not, but I don't believe Clay has a problem if...

No problem, Clay. I love these rules. Now ask me to explain a grapple in 3.5 and I'm outta here! LOL

Hi I am wondering if characters can apply Power Perks and Flaws to Martial Arts? Weapons and Power Moves can use them it makes Martial Arts seem useless compared to Weapon as Martial Arts can't have Power Perks the way its listed in the book. The quick answer is no. Martial arts doesn't expend endu...

Oh, it's very simple. These are the basics: 1) Attacker rolls his dice to hit. 2) Defender rolls his dice to not be hit. 3) If the attacker's roll is equal or less than the defender's roll, he misses. 4) If the attacker's roll is greater than the defender's roll, he hits. 5) If the attacker hits, he...

Has anyone noticed that flunkies with rapid strike could be hugely over powered? Yes and no. I asked this question myself. The Rapid Strikes perk is tough, even in +1 weapons. However, Clay reminded me that a target of RS still gets the option of taking Multiple Actions. A flunkie with RS fighting ...

If you can wait for the Starstone Treasure to become available again, it makes for a great demo. I ran it as a demo a couple of weeks ago, and everything went smoothly. I have thread here under "OVA N00b and Loving It", and I explain a little on how it went. If you can't wait, putting toge...

I just wanted to add that I saw Appleseed: Ex Machina over the weekend. If you liked the first movie, you'll definitely like this one too. And I'm almost through the Witchblade series, and it is really good.

By the way, don't characters in Call of Cthulhu die a lot more easily? Or go insane? I would imagine that the Willpower stat is used a lot. And in Call of Cthulhu, player-characters don't have the benefit of Drama Dice to help them out. I wish Clay all the best for the genre books. Right now I'm no...

As it stands, OVA can be used for any campaign in the superhero, space opera, space adventuring, pulp novel, and "standard" action-adventure genres (police series, detective stories, James Bond, Bruce Wills and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, etc.). Some readers may not realize this at firs...

You're gonna love this... One of the players from the OVA demo I ran related this story to me over the weekend. He joined a D20 Modern wǔxiá-like/Urban Arcana/cyberpunk game last week. His character, along with the rest of the party, were ambushed in a warehouse by a gang of cyber-mobsters. He craft...

Most people think "Fluff" has some negative connotation. Lots of babble while writing rules. I think of fluff as text atmosphere, flavor, back story, setting and such (the good stuff). OVA has a really good balance of fluff. Fluff is the difference between... "OK... you hit and did 2...

LOL. Does it bother you that much? I don't believe that anyone who loves the game is particularly dismayed over it? Actually, as I look at the colors, artwork, and layout of the page; and considering the anime/manga theme of the game, I believe the term "fluffing" is appropriate. I wouldn'...
