Re: Help with Ranged attacks
Personally, I would combine these into a single new +5 Perk that went something like: Closer (+5) An Ability with this Perk allows the user to immediately enter the same space as the target, eliminating any "Ranged" status. Whether this is zooming to their position directly or tractor-beam...

Re: Fate/Stay Night Character- first Character Done For OVA
As mentioned above, I'd be wary of throwing out too many +5s—or really the higher numbers in general. If you glance through the book, even including NPCs, +5 is only used maybe twice. I'm only passingly familiar with Fate, but unless Mordred is the ULTIMATE SERVANT—these numbers are probably too hig...

Re: Ok sorry but I have some questions.
This has been brought up a few times over the years. Here's the original discussion of the topic from way too long ago: http://wiseturtle.razornetwork.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1911 Rawle Nyanzi had made a colorful chart based on his own calculations, but unfortunately the image links are now brok...

Re: Legionem sum quia multi sumus
I think of all the character writeups I expected to see with OVA, Shantae baddies weren't among them.

Re: Companion rulings
I have to agree that "turning the guitar against you" is arbitrary and against the spirit of the Ability. That's not to say companions CAN'T turn against you—but it's the sort of thing that would be a major plot point and discussed between you and the GM. This isn't something the GM should...

Re: Strong OP?
That is an interesting idea. Early on, I had considered having Perceptive add to Attack ROLLS when using ranged attacks, but I don't think using it as an equivalent of Strong came to mind. It's a bit of an abstraction, since by OVA logic it's the attack roll that makes you hit BETTER, while the DX o...

Re: Questions about Magic
One thing to keep in mind about Magic is that, just because you have the Magic Ability, doesn't mean every spell you cast has to be powered by the Magic Ability itself. If you look at Auren, you'll see his attack spells don't use Magic at all, they're just Attacks. Likewise, if your character is tur...

Re: Ok sorry but I have some questions.
There's been lots of great answers from everyone about this, but in case you want some thoughts straight from the horse's mouth: 1) While only Attack specifically delineates multiple "settings" for the Ability, there's no reason you can't apply the same logic to others. Sometimes this make...

Re: Using OVA rules with Adventures from older RPGs
Welcome to the boards! I hope you made it to MechaCon and had a great time! I have a fondness for old RPGs—and still peruse them from time to time—so I can only imagine the feeling of discovering your old stash was in one piece. OVA seems to inspire the most outlandish adventuring parties. It's alwa...

Re: So, trying out some setting specific houserules
While I may not resort quite to "murder hobos," you do have to consider that perhaps your players want to play a different kind of game than what you envision. A player's character, after all, is the incarnation of all their hopes and desires for the game. If there's a weakness on the shee...

Re: Sniffycrab's Bizarre Bazaar
While it's true that I think "not enough room" is not a concern for most anime-styled stories (and why I don't cover it at all in OVA), that's not to say it can't be. A -5 Flaw seems fine if we're talking adventures that delve into constrained dungeon passages enough for it to be a recurri...

Re: Kickstarter!
The series books are still in production. I've just had a lot of graphic design work that's been monopolizing my time, but hopefully I'll have more concrete news eventually. The app is its own problem that has been through several unsuccessful developers and money spent to no avail. I still want it ...

Re: So, my attempt to add class to the OVA
Once again, if everyone is given a roughly equal boost, I wouldn't be overly concerned by an addition like this unbalancing things. You may need to adjust the stats of bad guys (or even give them "stunts" of their own) but otherwise it seems like a fun tweak to me. The main thing is to mak...

Re: Balancing problems
As stated by others, Agile is for attack and Quick is for defense. One should never apply one to the other. Same for Combat Expert and Evasive . In fact, if we're expanding our viewpoint a bit, there's actually a lot of defensive Abilities to bring to bear. Vigorous and Tough expand your ability to ...

Re: How would you handle something like a sleeping effect?
Paralyzing is definitely the way to go. I think any effect that can last longer than a few rounds is basically unfair, and moreover, unfun. If you want to handwave a longer effect outside of combat, that's fine, but inside combat, think of it like video game RPGs. Sleep happens for a few rounds or u...
