Indivisible

I was captivated by this video game's basis in many cultures that don't usually see the light of day in fantasy video games, sort of like what Avatar: the Last Airbender did for English-language animated shows (plus, it has large animated sprites and gameplay a little like Valkyrie Profile and Chron...

Re: My first OVA game! Help with Outlaw Star setting

I originally got OVA while trying to find a system to run an Outlaw Star-like setting. A lot of the jobs Gene gets have some sort of twist to them: if someone needs a bodyguard for the next 48 hours, expect to be pursued by some transplanetary mafia and your client to be smuggling some living time b...

Re: Good Example Characters?

Power Ceiling I usually see in anime wherein the group's power ceiling rises, but the characters progress as a group (as do many of the challenges), as in One Piece or Gurren Lagann. It's the picture of leveling up, but they all have to reach some milestone to progress to the next ceiling.

Re: Can OVA do Vampire Hunter D?

Having another person in the same body as you is categorized under flaws, I believe. Transformations and draining blood are easy, and OVA lets you design your own weapon by basically describing it, same as characters. One tricky part is the sucking and devouring D's hand does, I'm not sure what trai...

Re: what campaigns will you be doing with OVA when you get i

A Persona game sounds like it would make full use of combat rules and the various perks and flaws easily. I'm not as familiar with Sword Art Online, but I've never had a problem running typical fantasy combat in OVA (my previous OVA experience was a Disgaea/Paper Mario-inspired, loopy fantasy advent...

Re: Questions from an Aspiring GM

> This article's advice < may save you a few headaches. Basically, as GM you can't control the PCs, and you can't assume what the PCs do when they appear on the scene. You do control the NPCs, so know your NPC motives, means, and plans of action (so you'll know how the NPCs react even when the unexp...

Re: what campaigns will you be doing with OVA when you get i

Enchanted by the worlds in anime like Tree of Palme , Green Legend Ran , and Windaria , I'm considering a game about collecting the pieces of broken hearts and lost childhoods in a harsh, possibly post-apocalyptic, alien world. Rather than focus on external strengths of the characters, I'd turn an e...

Re: Kickstarter!

Thanks for another preview! :)

Um, 2 typos, page 7:
1. right before "Recovering": last sentence dramatically cut-off! (as Bubba said)
2. under "Recovering": "...axioms to an old metor" (mentor?)

Re: Sample Characters...Sample!

I like! My only concern is how it will look when Raine's foot slips into the binding area between pages. Hopefully, it'll look fine.

Re: OVA Character Record

I've attached tweaked mock-ups of both character sheet and book spread. See if you like either better than its original. :)

Re: OVA Character Record

I apologize in advance for the post-full, Clay. ;) Yes, sorry, the dotted line on the left . I'm not a fan of the dots on the page layout either (the only thing I dislike about it), and I may have to do a mock-up to explain better, but, for now, all I can do is show you 2 horizontal lines: o o o o o...

Re: OVA Character Record

Snazzy so far, but... the column of circles on the right bothers me. How would a column of horizontal rectangles or thick lines instead (rounded-corner or otherwise) look?

Re: Kickstarter!

Let's see how I can apply TBZ tiers to OVA. I sought mainly the color hardcover because Tenra has a 2 books, one rather thick, both full of art. I really like the art for both TBZ and OVA. Assuming I'd need more d6s to play, an upgrade got me not only cheap d6s, but culturally appropriate kanji dice...

Re: Kickstarter!

Better done well than quickly. Even if September isn't OVA month, the Kickstarter for Tenra Bansho Zero (Jidai-geki Japan on an alien planet) came up for me (I wonder if their tiers would give Clay ideas). Anyway, don't count me out even if you see me rarely; I'm very patient.
